The country to which you are posted determines how you are insured for medical costs.

Are you being detached to another country of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland? Please contact CM in advance. You will then receive a European Health Insurance Card or an S1 form if your place of residence actually changes.

With this form you can register with a local health insurance fund in your new country of residence. You are therefore entitled to reimbursement of your medical costs based on foreign legislation , but at the expense of the Belgian health insurance.

The European Union consists of : Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Czech Republic and Sweden.

Belgium concluded a (bilateral) treaty with the following countries that also provides healthcare during posting :

    • Algeria
    • Australia
    • Bosnia and Herzegovina
    • Morocco
    • Montenegro
    • North Macedonia
    • Quebec
    • Serbia
    • Tunisia
    • Turkey

Before you leave, always contact CM. Depending on the country of posting, you will receive a specific form with which you can register with a local health insurance fund in your new country of residence. For example, for a certain period (which varies from country to country) you are entitled to reimbursement of your medical costs based on foreign legislation , but at the expense of the Belgian health insurance.

Belgium has concluded a (bilateral) treaty without a health care component with the following countries:

    • Philippines
    • India
    • Israel
    • Japan

    • South Korea

Before you leave, always contact CM. Depending on the country, you will remain insured by the Belgian health insurance for twelve to sixty months . During that period, CM will reimburse your medical costs. Because the reimbursement may be considerably lower than the actual costs, it is best to take out private insurance .

Before you leave, always contact CM. You will remain insured by the Belgian health insurance for a maximum of six months (extendable once). During that period, CM will reimburse your medical costs. Because the reimbursement may be considerably lower than the actual costs, it is best to take out private insurance . This can usually be done through the employer.
