Maternity leave for the self-employed
Self-employed people who have become fathers or co-parents are entitled to maternity leave. They can interrupt their professional activity for a maximum of twenty days or a maximum of forty half days, in a period of up to four months after birth.
The maternity leave is paid by the social insurance fund. It must be requested before the end of the quarter following the quarter of the birth.
In addition to your self-employed activity, do you also have a salaried status? Then the right to the maternity leave benefit as an employee is given priority. You are only entitled to the balance of the maternity leave benefit as a self-employed person if this amount is higher than the amount of the benefit for wage earners.
