Benefits when incapacitated for work
Employees, the unemployed and the self-employed who are unable to work due to illness or accident can receive benefits from CM.
After CM has received your declaration of incapacity for work (document 'Vertrouwelijk') correctly completed, you may be entitled to sickness benefits.
You will receive an information sheet to calculate this benefit. You must complete this and return it to CM as quickly as possible.
You will receive sickness benefit from the first day after the period of guaranteed wages. The guaranteed wage is the period during which your wage is paid by your employer.
You receive sickness benefit from the first day of your illness.
If your period of illness lasts longer than 7 days, you can receive benefits as a self-employed person from the first day you became ill.
Who is entitled to benefits?
- You are either an employee, unemployed, or self-employed. This is called your status.
- No more than 30 days may have elapsed between the end of your status and the beginning of your incapacity for work.
- A waiting period applies:
- Employee/unemployed: In the 12 months preceding your incapacity, you must have worked 180 days as a full-time employee. Days deemed equivalent to this, such as unemployment, also count. Part-time employees must demonstrate 800 hours of work (or equivalent hours).
- Self-employed: Your social security contributions must have been paid for the two quarters preceding your incapacity for work.
- In certain situations, you are exempt from the waiting period. For example, if you started working or received integration benefits within 13 months of completing your studies.
Who is not eligible?
- Permanent government employees: separate regulations apply to this that are not covered by health insurance.
- Accident at work or occupational disease : different regulations apply.
