Vaccine against the human papillomavirus
CM and the health insurance provide reimbursement for a number of vaccines. After all, a small injection can prevent a lot of trouble.
The human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause cervical cancer, cancers of the genitals and anus, or cancers in the head and neck region. In addition, HPV can also cause genital warts.
Free offer for those aged 18 and under
- The Flemish government offers a free vaccination (Gardasil9®) for children in the first year of secondary education through the CLB.
- The GP can also administer the vaccination, but then you pay for the consultation. The vaccine is free if the GP orders it via Vaccinnet, the ordering system of the Flemish government. If you get the vaccine from the pharmacist with a prescription, it is not free.
Health insurance largely reimburses the Gardasil9® vaccine for children aged 12 to 18. For them, the vaccine costs 12.80 euros per dose or 8.50 euros if they are entitled to an supplemented refunds. For girls, the Cervarix® vaccine is also eligible for a similar reimbursement.
Important : depending on age, the vaccination consists of two or three doses .

You only pay the co-payment
Do you meet all the conditions? Then you only pay the co-payment to the pharmacist.
What are the conditions?
- The child is at least 12 years old, but not yet 19 years old at the time of first administration. Anyone who purchases the first vaccine on their nineteenth birthday is not entitled to the compensation (regardless of the date on the prescription).
- A maximum of three reimbursable doses are possible.
- The prescription states 'First administration', 'Second administration' or 'Third administration'. For a second and third vaccine, the date of the first and/or second is also noted on the prescription.
From the age of 19
The reimbursement scheme for Gardasil® has been extended. Anyone aged 19 but under 31 can receive reimbursement on the basis of a prescription from their GP. In the case of specific conditions such as HIV, or following a stem cell transplant or organ transplant, reimbursement may be available up to the age of 45. In such cases, however, reimbursement must be applied for using a specific form.
