Cataract surgery
During cataract surgery, the ophthalmologist makes a few small incisions in your cornea. Your cloudy eye lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens.
The cost of this operation depends on several factors such as the location of the procedure (approved hospital or private clinic), the choice of room, the material used, or whether you are entitled to increased compensation . Be sure to ask this before your admission.

Health insurance is mandatory in Belgium. Everyone who contributes can enjoy it.

Thanks to CM insurance, you enjoy optimal financial protection for costs inside or outside the hospital.
Health insurance
Depending on the location of the procedure , health insurance will reimburse the cataract procedure:
Approved hospital
DO receive reimbursement for the doctor's fee, lenses and accommodation costs
NOT no refund for lenses with a diopter of less than two and for multifocal lenses
Private clinic
DO receive reimbursement for the doctor's fee and the lenses
NOT no refund for supplements and withdrawal fees
If you choose a single room, additional fees may be charged.
CM insurance
- CM-Hospitaalplan provides reimbursement for the procedure in a general hospital.
- CM-MediKo Plan can reimburse part of the costs for the procedure in a private ophthalmologist practice.
