Glasses
Are you not entitled to a reimbursement from your health insurance? Then you might be eligible for the CM benefit. CM reimburses €40 per year for new glasses. For children up to and including 18, that amount is even €50.

Reimbursement by your health insurance depends on the lenses you choose, your vision condition and your age.
Are you not eligible for a reimbursement from your health insurance ? Then you may be entitled to the CM benefit. The exact amounts, terms, and how to apply for reimbursement are explained below.

Health insurance
In Belgium, health insurance is mandatory. Everyone who contributes can benefit from it.

As a CM member, you will receive a refund for glasses or lenses if your health insurance does not cover them.

Health insurance reimbursement?
Are the glasses eligible for reimbursement from your health insurance? Then you will receive the following from your optician:
- a certificate of delivery;
- the prescription you received from your ophthalmologist.
Complete the certificate
Upon receipt of your glasses, please complete and sign the delivery certificate. This confirms receipt and indicates that the optician informed you about the outstanding balance and the supplement that is not reimbursed by your health insurance.
Submit the certificate to CM
You deliver the following original documents to CM via the CM mailbox :
- a certificate of delivery;
- the prescription you received from your ophthalmologist.
Health insurance | reimbursements
- If you buy your glasses from a non-contracted optician , the reimbursement will be reduced by 25 percent , unless increased compensation is available.
Glasses
- refundable for all ages
- reimbursement per lens: between €82.22 and €381.57 (except with a non-contracted optician )
- single vision glasses for distance or close-up vision
- multi-vision lenses (bifocal, trifocal or multifocal)
- there is a difference in strength compared to the previous lenses of at least 0.5 diopters or the lenses are 5 years old (or 2 years old for those under 18)
- refundable for young people under 18 years of age
- reimbursement per lens: between €45.88 and €336.11 (except with a non-contracted optician )
- single vision glasses, for distance or close-up
- multi-vision lenses (bifocal, trifocal or multifocal)
- there is a difference in strength compared to the previous glasses of at least 0.5 diopters or the glasses are 2 years old
- refundable for people aged 65 and over
- reimbursement per lens: between €94.87 and €332.03 (except with a non-contracted optician )
- multi-vision lenses (bifocal, trifocal or multifocal)
- There is a difference in strength compared to the previous lenses of at least 0.5 dioptres or the lenses are 5 years old.
- From (+/-) 6.00 dioptres you fall into the category 'glasses with at least (+/-) 6.00 dioptres' for reimbursement, see above.
- reimbursement per lens between €105.41 and €806.36 (except with a non-contracted optician )
- single-vision lenses (with or without diopter correction)
- clip-on glasses and suspension systems
- there is a difference in strength compared to the previous lenses of at least 0.5 diopters or the lenses are 5 years old (or 2 years old for those under 18)
- Note: You will only receive a refund if you have a medical condition . This is the case if your ophthalmologist indicates the diopter for each eye on your prescription and checks "Yes" in the "Medical indication" box .
Frame
Young people under 18 will receive a refund of €29.51 for a frame :
- At a non-contracted optician this is 22.14 euros
- maximum twice
- with a first refund at least one lens of the glasses must be reimbursed
What are the conditions?
- In multifocal lenses, the diopter is determined on the basis of the deviation in distance vision .
- For glasses with a medical filter, the condition applies that you suffer from a certain condition .
- This is the case if your ophthalmologist states the diopter per eye on your prescription and puts a check mark next to 'Yes' in the 'Medical indication' box .
- Are you eligible for a health insurance reimbursement ? Then your optician must inform you that there are lenses available that are fully reimbursed and of good optical quality.
CM advantage
Are you not eligible for reimbursement from your health insurance? Then you might be eligible for the CM benefit. If you buy glasses frames, lenses, or contact lenses, you'll receive:
- up to and including 18 years: a refund of up to 50 euros per calendar year;
- from 19 years: a refund of up to 40 euros per calendar year.
You deliver the invoice to CM
You can deliver the following documents to CM via the My CM app or the CM mailbox :
- the invoice stating the diopter;
- the payment receipt stating the diopter and the amount paid.
You will receive your refund
The payment will be transferred to your account as soon as possible.
What are the conditions?
- You are a member of CM.
- You purchased your glasses from an optician or optometrist recognized by the Riziv .
- You will not receive a refund from your health insurance .
- The refund does not apply :
- for glasses with zero dioptres;
- for repairs;

CM-MediKo Plan is also available for people with reduced vision
- up to 120 euros per year for corrective lenses
- up to 120 euros per year for contact lenses
- up to 250 euros per year for lens implants
- up to 250 euros per year for surgical vision corrections
